CAROLINE HARTMAN, LPC-MHSP, CEDS

Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist

Caroline Hartman Criste is a licensed professional counselor (LPC-MHSP) and a telehealth only provider who joined the practice in January 2019. She brings a wealth of experience and passion to her work with children, adolescents, adults, and families seeking help with disordered eating, anxiety disorders, and OCD.   Originally from Maryland, Caroline graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then earned her Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Maryland, completing her counseling internship in child and adolescent trauma disorders at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Caroline is skilled in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and co-occurring disorders such as (but not limited to) depression and trauma. From her previous positions with The Renfrew Center’s Bethesda and Baltimore locations, and most recently Rogers Behavioral Health Nashville, Caroline has five plus years of experience working in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient settings specializing in anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder. Caroline’s passion for working with clients suffering from disordered eating behaviors and clinically diagnosable eating disorders prompted her to obtain her Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) credential through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals Foundation in July of 2018.

Through a collaborative and supportive relationship, Caroline enjoys empowering clients to find relief and freedom from symptoms while addressing underlying triggers, fears, and maladaptive patterns. When working with families, Caroline strives to help increase caregivers’ confidence to reduce unhelpful accommodations while removing the shame and blame commonly felt. She is excited to continue serving diverse populations of children, adolescents, adults, and families using an evidenced based, multidisciplinary approach. The evidenced based approaches used in therapy include (but are not limited to) cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), motivational interviewing (MI), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), and family based treatment (FBT).
